Reading the Book of Mormon: A Challenge!
About 6 months ago I was looking online for a reading schedule to help me get the Book of Mormon read by this last General Conference. In my search I found this challenge where you read the Book of Mormon 3 times over a three month period each time paying attention to different themes. I have been doing this for 1 week now and I have found so far that my experience has been very rewarding. I have always liked to read but have never been able to read the Book of Mormon in the same way that I read a novel. So this is a new experience for me (especially since I am going to read it like that 3 times in a row).
You can read about the challenge by clicking here.
Now in this document that describes the challenge (if you read it) you will see that he wants you to send him a detailed letter describing your experiences for his website. I would rather you send them to me so that I can add them either here on my blog or else on Geni.com. I think it would be neat to see the different experiences that everyone has as they complete this challenge. It should be very fun and rewarding. Please let me know if you are taking the challenge also as I would love to include you in my prayers and keep in touch with you on the challenge. And we can of course encourage eachother as we go.

McCall Idaho Winter Carnival
We had a wonderful time at the Winter Carnival in McCall as you can see. For those who may not know, this is an annual event where they have ice sculptures people have hand made all around downtown for people to come and see. McCall is a little tourist town 100 miles directly north of us. The kids enjoyed seeing all of the ice sculptures. When we asked them what their favorites were they had a hard time deciding as they liked so many. Scooby Doo and gang in the boat was definitely a favorite as was the castle with the trees all around it. We saw the fire hydrant on our way home and thought of Grampa Harris. The kids also got to sled down into Payette lake right there in McCall. We all made snow angels out on the frozen lake. It was a fun day!! We may have to make this a family tradition we enjoyed it so much. We may go up in the summertime and do some camping and go out on the lake as well. It's beautiful country!

Proud of Hyrum
On Thursday I got to have breakfast with Hyrum at school. They just started a program this month where they will honor 1 student from each classroom that exibits a certain behavior. They are trying to help teach the kids to be more ... This month it was respect. So I went and had a breakfast of Krispy Kreme doughnuts and juice at the school. Of course I think that is Hyrum's favorite breakfast. He had two of them. His teacher was there also. Each of the teachers were there and sat with the kid in their class. I thought it was wonderful. She even put her arm around him and let him know how proud she is of him. I had to tell her that I thought it was wonderful that she would do that. I think there are a lot of teachers who are afraid to show any kind of affection towards the kids and I think they need it. She told me that she likes to treat them as she would her own kids. That made it even better for me.
Any how, to say the least, Lynette and I are proud of him. Keep up the good work Hyrum.
